Why wear one

Heat rises, and your head is closest to it

On the top bench, the hottest air in the room sits right where your head is. A wool felt hat puts a layer between the two, so you can stay up there a few minutes longer before your head tells you to get down.

01

100% wool felt

Worn dry, the felt slows the heat down. Dip it in cold water first, wring it out, and it stays cooler for longer.

02

Made in Lithuania

Where people have worn felt hats in the sauna for generations. We’ll always tell you where ours come from.

03

Finished in Dublin

The hats come to Dublin plain. We sew the Inish patch on here and check every one before it’s posted.

How to wear it

Wet it, wring it, put it on

Before you go in, dip it in cold water and wring it out gently. Pull it down over your ears. In the heat, the wet felt keeps your head cooler for longer.

01

Between rounds

Going in and out of the sea or a plunge? Dip it again each time.

02

After

Rinse it, squeeze out the water, shape it with your hands and let it dry. Keep it off radiators.

03

Every few weeks

Wash it by hand in cold water with a little wool wash. No washing machine, no tumble dryer, no hot water. Heat and rubbing are what shrink felt.

Questions

What people ask

When can I get one?

Batch 01 lands in late November. The waitlist hears first and gets first pick, before the shop opens to everyone.

What colours does it come in?

Two: oat and charcoal.

Do I need a hat in the sauna?

No, but it helps. On the top bench your head is in the hottest air in the room, and it’s usually the first thing that tells you to get down. A wool hat takes the edge off, so you can stay up there a bit longer.

Where is it made?

The hat is made in Lithuania. It comes to Dublin plain, and we sew on the Inish patch here and check every one before it’s posted.

Will it shrink?

Felt shrinks with hot water and rubbing, so wash it by hand in cold water, shape it with your hands and let it dry on its own.
